NARAL's Keenan to Step Down -- Report
By National Journal Staff | Thursday, May 10, 2012 | 5:05 p.m.Nancy Keenan will step down as president of NARAL Pro-Choice America at the end of the year, saying the organization needs someone younger to relate to younger voters, The Washington Post reports.
Keenan, 60, said that internal polling shows that "millennials" -- the generation born between 1980 and 1991 -- who support abortion rights don't feel as passionate about the issue as their predecessors, but opponents of abortion do feel passionate.
“There’s an opportunity for a new and younger leader,” Keenan said during a Wednesday interview in her Washington office. “Roe v. Wade is 40 in January. It’s time for a new leader to come in and, basically, be the person for the next 40 years of protecting reproductive choice.”
