Romney Camp Says Former Barclays CEO Won't Cohost Fundraiser

Mitt Romney’s campaign announced that former Barclays CEO Robert Diamond will no longer be cohosting a planned fundraiser for the ex-Massachusetts governor, The Boston Globe reported.

“Mr. Diamond decided to step aside as a cohost for the upcoming London reception to focus all his attention on Barclays,” Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said. “We respect his decision.”

The announcement from the campaign apparently came before the news that Diamond had resigned as CEO.

Romney had planned to attend the fundraiser while in town for opening ceremonies for the Olympics. The London Telegraph reported that the price for attending the dinner was anywhere between $25,000 and $75,000. The Romney campaign did not say whether the fundraiser would still be held or whether anyone else would cohost.

Diamond, a native of Concord, Mass., donated $2,500 to Romney last year.

Barclays, one of the world's largest banks, has already been fined $453 million in a settlement with U.S. and British authorities over rate-fixing charges.
