In a new television ad highlighting his record on women's issues, President Obama touts the first measure he signed into law, the Lilly Ledbetter Act, which provides women with more legal channels to pursue equal pay.

The 30-second spot begins by noting that Obama was the "son of a single mom." A narrator intones: “President Obama knows that women being paid 77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men isn’t just unfair… it hurts families.”

And so, the ad continues, the first law Obama signed in January 2009 was the Ledbetter Act to “help ensure that women are paid the same as men for doing the exact same work.”

The ad concludes: “Because President Obama knows that fairness for women means a stronger middle class for America.”

GOP challenger Mitt Romney said he would not move to repeal the act were he to win the presidency.
